It is estimated that around 60% of new traffic to your Web site will come from search engines. This means that unless you are already popular and people know your name where they can search for your site, you will need a good search engine strategy. Thousands of new Web sites are created daily, so the saying Build it, and they will come does not apply. If people don't know about you, there won't be any traffic.
Effective Web site promotion requires a serious and continuing investment of time and resources, whether you do it yourself, or hire a professional. It is not a one time deal, but an ongoing process, meaning you should consider the return on your investment with the things you do.
You can collect a large amount of crucial information about your traffic, and make important business decisions by tracking and making changes when necessary.
If you are short on funds and have limited time, you don't want to waste your time advertising in areas that will not produce results. How will you track and analysis your web traffic? Find a good program with tracking ability, you need this to succeed.
Is there a way to make trial run to find if you will be successful or not? This brief summary should give you some ideas that will be helpful, and save you both money and time.
The first approach is to ask as many people as possible where to advertise and promote your site. However, there is a drawback. Only about 10% of those who give you advice really can help. Be open minded to question any guidance that you get and don't be afraid to ask questions.
If you want your site to rise quickly to the top spot at the search results page you need to know what to feed the search engine spiders.
1. Keywords
These spiders are constant looking for the content on these pages. If your website contains good keywords that directly relate to your business. The chances of having your site increase in popularity are better. You can put these keywords in your tag and within your text also.
For example, a site that sells cars should have the following words through out it's page, car, auto, sales, for sale, automobile, van, SUV, suv, truck, pick up, and so on.
2. Index Your Pages
Spiders move from site to site, and from page to page by following the links that are listed on every page they visit. If you have pages that are not listed in your index page, there is a big possibility that the spiders will miss those pages.
So make sure all your links are, as much as possible, on the index page. If not, at least make sure there is a direct and easy path from the index page to every page in your site. Also a site map is a must. Do a search for site map and you can find free software to help you with this.
It also helps if you have other sites whose links point to you. Also get all your friends who have good sites up to show a link that leads to your site. There are some good free programs that will help you with link exchanges also for building link popularity.
3. Optimize your content
Remember Keywords have a great impact on a web site's popularity. However, spiders are also aware that some sites abuse the use of keywords. And they know how to act accordingly. Instead of getting a better ranking, you might find your ranking falling instead.
You can and should add more and better content to your site. This allows you to increase the keyword density in your website without abusing any search engine rules.
Examples of this would be to link tutorials, essays, articles and other material to your site. If these materials are keyword rich, that would increase the ranking of your web site.
4. Paid Advertisements and Directories.
You could also have your site advertised by Google or have it listed on the Yahoo and other directories. It will cost you money, but it does increase traffic and popularty.
Try Mixing Things Up
Mix and match these various strategies according to your needs and your ability. Soon enough, you will find your website up there among the most popular on the internet. And as for the traffic? You'll have so much traffic that you will succeed.
