Gynecologists say that birth control pills (oral contraceptives) may have many side effects; one of them is weight gain or obesity. Most of the women get five pounds weight after taking oral contraceptives. Normally women get weight after few days or a month from starting of taking the pills. In most of the cases, women gain weight who do not take oral contraceptives in the last half of their menstrual cycle; this is due to hormonal changes. This is also important to know why women get obese by taking oral contraceptives. Reasons for this are as follows. • Due to oral contraceptives, the level of metabolism alters. This is because both the estrogen and progestin present in these pills can cause fluid retention, a temporary effect that often begins in the first month as a result of an increase in sodium. The cause of weight gain (increase of hips, breast, or thigh) is due to estrogen. • Oral contraceptives contain progestin which cause increase in appetite and permanent weight gain. • Pills administered for depression may also be the cause of weight gain. Women who get weight due to oral contraceptives may loose weight through weight loss diet pills, natural supplements, exercise, yoga and other weight loss programs. After having given birth; weight becomes a lasting issue for many women. Every year, there are many women who have left over weight brought on by the loving process of pregnancy. Once the baby is born you lose 12.5 - 14 pounds, any weight above that must be taken off by the new mom, if she so desire and if her doctor deems it beneficial for her to do so. Each woman has her own reason(s) for wanting to lose their after birth weight. The reasons usually fall in the area personal, health and professional reasons. Retained Weight After Pregnancy is Linked to a Gene Dr. Winfried Siffert and his colleagues (from the University Hospital in Essen, Germany) studied 792 young healthy women who were becoming first time mothers or have had only one other baby before These women entered into a weight comparison study. Dr. Winfried Siffert and colleaguse determined that the women who had the gene; G protein beta-3 subunit 825TT was more likely to hang onto their weight after having given birth than those who did not have the gene. Putting this study together with a seperate research done earlier suggest that the G protein beta-3 subunit 825TT gene is likely to cause irregularities in metabolism. Drs. Ross D. Feldman and Robert A. Hegele of the University of Western Ontario, Canada, wrote in their editorial concerning the studies. Research also show that moms with this gene can still lose after birth weight simply by execerising a miniumum of one hour per week. By execrising one hour mimium per week, moms with the G protein beta-3 subunit 825TT gene are just as likely to lose weight as other moms without this gene. Precaution: Never start any weight loss or execrise program without first consulting a physician.
